Waka Ama / Va'a / Outrigger Canoe Paddles

This all time favourite paddle from Tai Paddles is named after the Akura/Broadbill fish.

Speaking from experience, the CPA team would rate the 'Broadbill' as a perfect mid range paddle. It's a perfect weight for smaller paddlers, whilst not causing "paddle flutter' through the stroke. It's also extremely forgiving on entry and exit due to the flat surface on the power face. Consistent feedback on the Broadbill confirms super stability and grip through the water.

Paddler Profile:

The Broadbill would compliment paddlers with a longer reach, enhancing positive entry in the stroke. As already mentioned, it's mid range in its weight class with a wide range of paddlers being worthy of its use.

The combination of both the timber shaft and carbon blade seems to offer the idea flex through the stroke.

It's perfect as a everyday paddle and loved by many paddlers.

Finally, let's address blade width.  With a range of blade lengths available, please remember , the wider the blade the more water will be pulled. So... wider blades will generally be more comfortable for stronger paddles. Stroke rating must also be considered. If a high rating is used a smaller width blade is generally more comfortable and assists early fatigue.

Blade offset will assist to reduce downward drag on the back of the stroke.

An interesting fact: Tai Paddles are now made from components and materials from both overseas and NZ, the woodworking and finishing is done in the coastal town of Whaingaroa -- Raglan, Aotearoa.
